Danny the Red led demonstrations at the Sorbonne in Nanterre which led to disciplinary action by the university and questioning by the local police. The immediate result of this heavy-handed discipline was a huge increase in the size of the French student movement and the outbreak of rioting which brought France to the edge of a revolution in May 1968.
