Michael Duane relates an experiment in a state school set up to provide non-school education for 15 year-olds for whom school has become meaningless. The experiment ran for 2 years in Northcliffe Comprehensive School in the mining town of Conisbrough, South Yorkshire. It closed not because it had failed but because its private sponsors decided they could no longer afford it.

Foreword by Colin Ward.
